Sara Grabbed Her First Olympic Medal

■Nathan Shiga: February 13, 2018

It was not the color she had wished for but Sara Takanashi came home with a bronze medal in the women’s normal hill jump at Alpensia Ski Jumping Centre on Monday night.

It was her first Olympic medal she would have won four years before at Sochi. Sara had suffered from the spell of a nightmare since then.

She scored an impressive leap of 103.5 meters in her first jump and placed third going into the final round.

Sara jumped the same distance in the final to mark a total score of 264.5 to clinch a spot on the podium.

Her mate Yuki Ito who had finished ninth with a disappointing score of 203.9 rushed to hug Sara in utter excitement the moment Sara clinched a medal.

After the competition, Sara Takanashi told the press in tears how gratified she was to see her mates lining up to greet her.

Norway’s Maren Lundby won the gold medal and Germany’s Katharina Althaus the silver.
