An 10-Year-Old Actor Grabs Best Male Actor Prize in Milano Cinema Fest 2018

Young teens are fast rising in Japanese lately and now a boy two years shy of that age bracket won the Best Leading Male Actor Prize in a foreign movie festival in Italy.

Kokoro Terada, aged 10, met the press with his director Jackie Woo, December 12, and said he was surprised “because he was only told that this movie would be shown overseas”. He starred in a movie titled “Grandma, You OK?”.

Terada told the press that he wanted to thank Actress Manami Fuji who played Grandma in the film, his real grandmother and everybody who had helped him win the prize.

Asked how reacted to the news, Terada said:

“I’ve been crying since I was told of the news. I told my grandma and she said it was great and told me, crying, that we all should thank everybody for that.” Director Woo confided that Terada was sobbing his heart out when he was told he had won the prize and the Chairman of the selection board bared Terada was the first winning male actor in the festival who was cheered with such a grand standing ovation.

“I seldom employ the word genius but must admit Terada is one with such a high level of sensitivity, quick response and born talent to act,” said Director Woo.

Asked of Director Woo, Terada said, smiling:

“Mr. Woo was so tender and told me a lot of things. He has a script of his own and used it to teach me how to act. It was such a fun”.

The film depicts a “grandma” with cognitive dementia who goes astray and her grandson who goes through trials caring for her. The film is scheduled for public showing early next spring, 2019.
