Ailing Seiji Ozawa Not Conducting in Mito

Seiji Ozawa, Japan’s conductor of world repute and director of Art Tower Mito in Mito, Ibaraki, is not conducting at the scheduled regular concert in May on account of his heart ailment, announced Art Tower Mito, April 2.

Ozawa had a regular concert scheduled to conduct the Mito Chamber Orchestra on two days on 20th and 22nd of May. Another concerted was slated for 25th May in Oita. Seiji Ozawa cancelled both engagements.

According to ATM, Ozawa was diagnosed with aortic valve stenosis that should take some time to treat. They said the chamber orchestra will perform without a conductor and the tickets will offered 10,000 yen less than original priced.

Seiji Ozawa comments:
“I sincerely apologize for not conducting in May. I thought it was best that I should concentrate in treatment and recover my stamina to get back to the podium.”
