Miss Naomi Osaka Won Major Tennis Tournament for First Time in History

This has to be the biggest sports event so far in the year 2018 as far as Japan’s woman tennis is concerned. It was staged by a fast-rising tennis sensation in the person of Naomi Osaka, 20, as she out-slammed Daria Kasatkina of Russia in the final of BNP Paribas Open 2018 in the Indian Wells Tennis Garden, March 18.

Naomi Osaka hails from Osaka, Japan, and is a Haitian-American-Japanese who represents Japan in tennis competitions. The victory in BNP Paribas Open 2018 lifted Naomi’s best world singles ranking from 44th before the tournament to 22nd thereafter.

According to the Japan Tennis Association, Kimiko Date tops others in the world ranking with 4th and Osaka ranks 22nd behind Shinobu Asagoe who ranks 21st. Naomi Osaka is the 6th highest women professional tennis player in Japan.

The world’s top-ranking woman player is Romania’s Simona Halep, whom Naomi beat in the semi-final in BNP Paribas Open this year.
