Honda Sold 100 Million Super-Cubs in 60 Years

●Nathan Shiga: October 19

Honda celebrated this month the feat of having sold 100 million of a legendary auto-bicycle first conceived and assembled by the founder Soichiro Honda at Kumamoto Plant back in the year 1958.

The auto-bicycle fondly named Super Cub has made its way to over 160 countries and regions around the world and its 100 millionth unit left the assembly line in Kumamoto this month.

President Takehiro Hachigo led some 1000 individuals to a celebration ceremony to mark the occasion. A film was shown to look back on the history of the machine, followed by an address by President Hachigo:

“It is just great to see a machine first put out 60 years ago by our founder still in action the world over.

“Super Cub is a reminder for all of us to set our minds up to challenge manufacturing another 100 million.”

A soba-noodle house in Ota, Tokyo, has driven nothing but Super Cub for delivery since it was first marketed. The coming of an auto-bicycle has driven bicycles away but won customers who welcomed “quick delivery”.
